1st Thessaloniki Pride’s Program Announced

The first Pride in northern city Thessaloniki is planned as an event to celebrate the culture of LGBTs in Greece. The festival starts on 22nd of June with a music event in Katholikon Street with the participation of DJs and the local LGBT community. The celebration on June 23rd in the pedestrian area of Agia Sofia Street contains music concerts, DJ sets, LGBT information desks and a parade.

The slogan for the first Pride is “One Love, a Thousand Colours”. The event intends to commemorade of the Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in the modern LGBT rights movement. The event is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

• 16:00: Opening of visual arts exhibition

• 19:00: Discussion with the President of the Greek Transgendered Support Association (SYD), Marina Galanou, on the problems transgender individuals face and the current challenges of the LGBT movement

• 20:00: “Glad? – LGBT youth”: 3 short films that won awards at Thessaloniki International LGBT Short Film Festival

• 11:00-15:00: Handing out information to passers-by in the morning at organisations’ kiosks
• 15:00-17:30: Afternoon siesta break
• 18:30-19:45: Participants’ assembly and presentation of organisations’ kiosks
• 19:45-20:30: Speeches by participating organisation representatives and the Mayor
• 20:30-21:30: PARADE
• 20:30: Parade starts
• 21:00: Lighting of the White Tower
• 21:30: Parade returns
• 21:30-23:30: Concert
