Wednesday, March 20, 2013
"Mrs. His Name", a documentary by Hande Çayır was screened within the scope of the 2nd International Feminist Forum on March 17, Sunday.

Organized by Kaos GL, International Feminist Forum took place on March 16th - 17th, with participants from 14 countries and Turkey.

The forum hosted a screening of "Mrs. His Name", a documentary directed by Hande Çayır.

The documentary, also shown at the 2nd International Crime and Punishment Film Festival and Doing Autoethnography: (Re)writing Self, Other, and Society conference in the USA, addresses women’s changing last names after marriage and divorce. Women in Turkey apply to the European Court of Human Rights regarding the issue. What do men think about it? What do women feel about it? What happens between the lines?

The movie is made with a view to raising awareness of such experiences.

Here is a dialogue from the movie:
-- Are you married?
-- Yes.
-- What does your wife use?
-- Normal. Nothing unusual. She uses my last name. She didn’t have a demand like that.
-- She didn’t?
-- No, no.
-- What if she did?
-- My wife’s a little, how can I put it, she doesn’t care.
